Herb Ritts:
I like Herb Ritts a lot. I think his work is very interesting. He often shoots the naked body, but i think he is showing how humans naturally are and that we shouldn't be ashamed by our bodies. I also like the way he shows the fluidity and movement of the body. As humans, we are the most advanced species and the only ones who actually cover up our bodies. Herb Ritts is showing us that we should embrace our natural state and be proud of who we are. I also like the way he has edited his picture. I think by having them in color it would have detracted from the pictures.

Richard Avedon:
I love Richard Avedon's work because it is so laid back and just fun. A lot of times in photography you see up-tight, posing models and Avedon's work is a nice refreshment from that. I love that there is just this woman putting on her making while sticking her tong out, and has bunny ears on. Normally, you would think of seeing a woman like this shot in a dressing room getting ready to perform, but she is just sitting at what appears to be a her home with bunny ears on. His pictures are very playful and that is what I like most about him.

Helmut Newton:
Helmut Newton's photography brings me back to the 50s with the way they are dressed. I personally love this style clothing so I am already bias to liking his pictures, but I do his technique as well. I love that every pictures feels like it has a story behind it and you are only catching a glimpse of it. This makes me want to know the rest of the story. I also think the black and white adds more mystery to the story.

Steven Meisel:
Steven Meisel's photos are also very appealing to me. For me, I get the feel that he is portraying what the youth, or girl anyway, this that have to do to fit in or be in style. All of the models have the crazy up-dos and what appear to be designer bags and clothes. The one girl even has a cigarette in her hand and another is covered in jewelry.

Ellen Von Unwerth:
I absolutely love Ellen Von Unwerth's work! Her work is so playful and has so much youth to it. Not only are the models young, but the way she edits her photos and the locations she chooses add to the youth. I would love to try and replicate or shot something similar to her style one day. The girls she shoots are so care-free and looks as though they have never had a care or responsibility in their life. Also, she shots these girls in tropical places that are fun and youthful!images (3).jpgimages (2).jpgellens-guess-campaign-01.jpg

Edward Weston:
Edward Weston's style is so unique and out there that you have to appreciate it. Although it is not my style and he is not my favorite photographer, I still admire what he does. His work is so simple, yet it makes you think so much and it really gets your mind going! Most of his work is done in the studio with a black background, but I think it adds emphasis to the objects and really takes a simple object stand out.

David LaChapelle:
David LaChapelle's work is another that is so unique you have to wonder who could have thought to do this? Where did his insperation come from? His work is so crazy and out there that is actually works. If you said to someone that you wanted to throw a bunch of obscure objects into a tiny, brightly colored room and then add a crazily dressed model they would think you were crazy. But David LaChapelle does it so creatively and artistically that the photos turn out beautiful.

Paul Strand:
I feel as though Paul Strand has a few different styles. For example, the images I choose are all
architectural and have these shadows on them that really appeal to me. As you probably already know, I like this style and the shadows the bridges create are amazing to me. I also enjoy the technical aspect; the way Paul Strand got up high and shoot at the downward angle.

Sarah Moon:
I really enjoy Sarah Moon's photos. There shot in a way that gives them that vintage look that I really like. I think she might have used film instead of a more modern camera. Also the photos have this elegance to them that I really like as well. The way the woman stands and the shading of the background are so elegant to me that makes me very attracted to these pictures.

Sally Mann:
I really love Sally Mann, she is one of my favorite photographer. I love the way she shoots her family and the drama in the pictures. Sally Mann isn't afraid with her photography, she will go to places no other photographers will! I especially love the one with her youngest daughter holding a dead animal even though I did not post it here. I also really love the effects she puts in the photos. In almost all of her photos there is a darkness around the outside with the center, or focal point being the lightest. I like the emphasis it gives the photos and that it feels like the photos were taken with film, which I really enjoy!

Alfred Steiglitz:
Alfred Steiglitz likes to take pictures of hands. I enjoy the way he shoots and I like that there is no color to his pictures. He doesn't do much editing to the picture but I like that about them. They are very natural pictures and they definitely inspired a lot of photographers out there.

Joyce Tennesson:
Joyce Tennesson is a very versatile photographers. She enjoys shooting the natural woman or girl, but also does several collections with flowers. I choose all pictures from her natural woman or girl photos. I really like these because the background plays up the picture so well, and they are really beautiful pictures. In the photo with the little girl the background is soft and calm just like the little girl is, or how we imagine any little girl would be. Then in the next photo I feel as though the background accentuate the woman's hair. Overall, I really like her style and technique.

Linda McCarthy:
To me Linda McCarthy's style is documentary. She shoots real life and what life should be about. I love her work because it seems so casual but at the same time there is so much detail in the photos. I really enjoy the one on the left because you can really feel the freeedom and youthfullness of the children playing. One little boy is jumping off the car while another is just standing a on fence as if she does it every day. It looks very natural, which is why I would clasify it as a documentary. I also love the god and house in the background that make you believe that this is a family and the kids are playing outside while the parents could possibly be inside working or cleaning. I also and fasinated by the casuality of the man leaning up against a wall. I can just picture the man stading there and Linda McCarthy just walking up to him asking if she can take his picture, or snapping the shot from a distance.

Steve McCurry:
I love and respect Steve McCurry's work! He travels to various countries to experience and capture the culture. In the first picture you can almost feel the fear the girl has by looking into her eyes. I can imagine her living in a small home with her family in a village in the Middle East. In the next picture I get the sense that there women are all very close with one another. They may not have much. but their family and their culture bring them all very close together. I also love the contrast between the dull brown of the dirt and wind in the background compared to the virbrant colors of the clothing. The last picture I choose has to be my favoirte. I love the bright blue color of the water and the strength it must take to balance on those sticks. Also, you can see a wave coming up behind them and while looking at this, I find myself thinking, "Please don't let them fall!" This picture also makes me want to see this in video and find out if they can withstand the waves and wind.

Rene Burri:
Rene Burri's photos have a very crisp and clean style. Although there is movement in all of the ones I choose you can still se the clearity of the objects or people that are still. For the photo with the man smoking you can see the detail in his hair; even the couple of hairs out of places are very crisp and clear. I also really like that you can faintly see the smoke coming from his cirgarette. I am also very intrigued by the phot with the birds because usually birds fly away from people but in this case they are flying almost directly over Rene Burri.

Cindy Sherman:
Cindy Sherman is a very interesting photographer. I personally do not have the same style and do not always understand her work, but as far as technique goes I can certainly admire her photos. In the photos I choose she has a clown theme, and while doing my reseach I discovered that she likes to work with clowns a lot. In the first picture I like that the woman almost blends in to the ground. I also like that she is looking down on the woman and the woman is looking off into the distance, it sort of makes me think the woman is dead. The middle photo is also interesting to me because the background looks like it is moving. Overall, from these photos I get the sense that she may be trying to send the message that we, as women are beautiful on the inside no matter what we look like on the outside. Although she could just be shooting clowns because she likes it. :)
